12. A lot of South Americans (like me!) love Rooney and see him as a legend. And we know a thing or two about legendary footballers! He was brave and tough, but also technically excellent and very clever on the pitch. I was very surprised when I found out most English people don’t rate him that highly, he remains to date as the best English player I’ve ever seen alongside Scholes. Maybe it’s because he didn’t win anything with the national team?

34. I’m German, and a staunch German national team supporter and there is obviously a huge rivalry there… add to that I never liked United, and until recently didn’t particularly like Rooney. But I must say that you could pick any German striker over the last 20 years… and Rooney would absolutely obliterate them. I’d go so far as to say Rooney was better than any of Germany’s all time greatest top 10 strikers, including Klinsmann and Gerd Müller. And he actually seems like a very nice dude
