Premier League match time dawns at Molineux as Wolves get set to host Blackpool on Saturday, February 26, in a second leg encounter in match week 28.

The first leg, hosted at Bloomfield Road by Blackpool on November 20, ended 2-1 in the hosts’ favour. Varney gave Blackpool the lead in the 4th minute as Wolves conceded an early goal for the third time in a row. Harewood put the hosts 2-0 ahead, with a minute to go before the break.

Ironically, but for the score, it was a game dominated by Wolves who enjoyed the better possession; it would not be an exaggeration to say that the match on the pitch was one-sided. But Blackpool took control of the midfield and adapted to the challenge. Holloway decided to go with 4 men in attack and 2 in the midfield, as opposed to the 3 each, in the Blommfield Road squad’s usual formation. Blackpool were as ever quick on the rebound, and Varney’s goal was arguably a contender for goal of the season,

Blackpool’s early strike meant that Wolves played catching up for the most part, and McCarthy’s wards did not create many chances in the first half. Lapses of concentration, especially in defence, cost Wolves 3 points on the day, with Foley the chief culprit for Blackpool’s first goal. Hahnemann had his own dubious contribution in the form of the second goal to the Seasiders. Giving credit where it’s due, McCarthy tried to change things around, by bring Ebanks-Blake in place of Hunt, in the second half. Doyle reduced the margin for Wolves, it proved too little too late, coming as it did with barely 4 minutes of regulation time left.

It’s Premier League match time at Molineux again, as Wolves look forward to hosting Liverpool in a second leg meeting on January 22, in match week 24.

The first leg encounter between the sides, hosted by Roy Hodgson’s squad, on December 29, ended 1-0 in Wolves favour, only their second win, at Anfield, in 60 years. This was Hodgson’s last game at the helm, as it transpired, and he was subjected to hostile booing by the crowd as were his substitutions, Babel and Konchesky. Some of Hodgson’ decisions could certainly be called into question, such as, for instance, benching Agger and playing Kuyt as a winger.

That said, the manager cannot be blamed for the utter ineptitude of his players, and there was plenty of evidenmce of that, on the day. The winning goal for McCarthy’s side came 12 minutes after the interval when Ward was put through by Ebanks-Blake who latched on to a poor clearance by Kyrgiakos. Going forward, Wolves were crisp and inventive, and aggressive, to boot. The Merseysiders had just one clear goal scoring opportunity when Fernando Torres fired a great cross that fell in Meireles path via Elokobi’s foot, but the Liverpool midfielder’ failed to convert. On the whole, Torres’ lack of confidence was palpable.

Head to head, in 5 league matches between the sides, Liverpool leade 2-1. In their last 10 league games, Wolves have won 4 while losing 6, while Liverpool have not done much better in their last 10, winning just 3, while drawing 2 and losing 5.

Wolves have won 5 of 11 games hosted, this season, while losing 4 and drawing the remaining 2; Liverpool’s away record has been poor, with 8 losses in 11 games on the road, while drawing 2 games and winning just the one.

Relegation favourites at 19th place, Wolves are coming off a 4-3 lossaway at Man City, while Liverpool, currently in 13th place on the points table, drew 2-2 with Everton at Anfield, in match week 23.

On current form, Liverpool should be happy if they could bank a point from the game.

Premier League match time returns to the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal set to host Blackburn in match week 30 on Saturday, April 2, in the second leg of their premier league meetings.

The first, hosted by Blackburn on August 28, 2010, ended 2-1 in the visitors’ favour. Arsenal took an early lead when Walcott scored for the Gunners on 20 minutes. M Diouf soon equalised, about seven minutes later, and the two sides went into the interval on level terms. About six minutes after the break, Arshavin scored what was to be the winner for Arsena Wenger’s charges.

Arsenal dominated the game after a bit of a shaky start during which Blackburn managed to force two corners. Blackburn fans would not hesitate to admit that the better team won, in the end. Strangely, substitutions appeared not to work at all for Blackburn, and in fact had quite the opposite effect to what was intended. One of the problems for Blackburn has been the absence of an effective midfielder, with Dunn proving chronically injury prone.

M Diouf was impressive in attack and troubled the inexperienced Arsenal backline that was marshalled on the day by Vermaelen. That said, Arsenal managed to cope well with the aerial threat that Blackburn posed. Apart from the initial minutes of the game, when Blackburn earned a couple of corners, Arsenal keeper Almunia wasn’t tested much.

Dear Sachin,

Dear Sachin, I know you find it extremely uncomfortable and feel embarrassed whenever you’re referred to as God. You have time and again said that you are a mere mortal whenever you’ve been revered as God or when fans have walked to you and touched your feet. But I still find it difficult to believe that you are just a mortal, and it’s not just me or your few MILLION fans; even many of your illustrious colleagues from the cricket world share the belief.

Even they find it difficult to accept that you are just another human being who is out there just to fulfill his life’s dream-of playing cricket. No Sir, we all think that you are some sort of an enigma – A rare gift from God to India and we are grateful to God for that. And you must also look at it this way – Hindus have their deities, Muslims have Allah, Christians have their Lord Jesus, Sikhs their Guru but you, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is the common demi-god we all worship. Even amongst Gods, the opinion seems divided- Lord Krishna in Gujarat, Lord Balaji in South, Lord Ganesha in Maharashtra, Maa Durga in W.Bengal. But you – you seem to enjoy a reverence across India which is unmatched even by the Gods! You belong to all of us. You may have been playing for more than 20 years now but for us you are still a teenager enjoying his game, wanting to just bat and entertain his millions of supporters. You seem to have no limits, while playing you seem to overcome all the physical barriers which sets in mere mortals due to age. You seem to have turned the cycles of nature, you have stopped time- it seems even time wants to enjoy your batting!

And in all these years, you have paid heeds to our unreasonable demands, although there have been few failures. But then, even Gods don’t fulfill each and every wish of its disciples. But your failure makes us crest-fallen, your success not only leaves us exuberant but they even make us forget our sorrows. But now you mustn’t fail; in fact you are NOT suppose to fail because now you carry on the hopes and backing of an entire nation of billions who want to see their God get his hand on the World Cup. And when you do that, believe me, you’ll leave an indelible image in the minds of millions.

You’ll bring us the most cherished moments of our lives when we’d see you smiling with the trophy in your well-deserved hands. It would easily be one of our lives most pleasant moment; an image one would remember even during his last days.

Someday, few of your milestones might be crossed (for the moment even this seems far-fetched) but be assured that the moments of pure delight you have created, the sense of unification you have generated, the exuberance and the sense of ecstasy we’ve experienced and the sheer entertainment you have provided would all remain forever unmatched.
