  • Home or Away, A Personalised Football Calendar Means You Won’t Miss a Thing

I use my knuckles. Clenching my fist, each bony bump is a 31-day month. Each gap between them isn’t. Once I get to the knuckle on my little finger, it’s back to the beginning. That’s how I remember the number of days in each month. Of course, the more conventional way would be to simply buy a calendar. Something with cute cats on it might be nice. Maybe one featuring my favourite TV programme? Or, most obviously of all, a football calendar. Turns out you can actually go one better these days, thanks to personalised football calendars. In some instances, you’ll even find calendars with photos of your favourite team and your name cleverly integrated throughout. What’s not to like?

Get yourself online and you’ll find calendars for over 50 teams. And not just the big boys either. Just like the personalised football books that are sold on the same sites, calendars cover clubs from Scotland, the Premier League, Championship, League 1, League 2 and even the Blue Square Premier. So whether it’s a Manchester United calendar, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs, or whether you’re after Watford, Bradford City or Luton Town, you might well find yourself pleasantly surprised by the choice. These specific football calendars feature a reprint of an original newspaper report for a game or event at the club in question, for each month. What’s more, you can pick the month the calendar starts on, and personalise the cover with a name and message.

A slightly more exclusive selection of personalised football calendar is available for the bigger clubs. We’re talking the likes of Aston Villa, Manchester City, Leeds, Wolves, Everton, West Ham, Newcastle, Sunderland and Forest, as well as the guys competing for the Champion’s League. These calendars are really quite cool – they feature photos from memorable moments throughout the club’s history for each month, and the recipient’s name cunningly infused into the photo. It could appear on the front of a shirt, in the advertising hoardings running round the pitch, or even on a scarf being held aloft in celebration. They’re definitely really good fun and the perfect solution if you’re trying to buy for the footie fan who’s already got everything his club has to offer.

If any of these sound like your cuppa tea, you’ll find them all online. And it’s not just personalised football calendars on offer. You’ve also got Cup Final DVDs, personalised mugs and prints, in addition to a whole range of other stuff. Just have a look – you’re bound to find something to suit.

  • Premier League Preview: Blackburn Vs West Ham

Blackburn Rovers host relegation favourites West Ham on Saturday, December 18, in match week 18.

Blackburn are coming off a 2-1 loss in a Lancashire derby away to Bolton. barring an 89th minute strike by Holden, Blackburn could have salvaged a point when M Diouf brought them level a minute earlier after Bolton had taken the lead through Muamba on 65 minutes.

Sam Allardyce will be more than annoyed that his charges did not exploit their one-man advantage in the last third after the sending off of Bolton’s Mark Davies. Barring a first minute opportunity squandered by Roberts, the Rovers did not control the game in the first third. They came back to life on 34 minutes when Roberts running through off a Jones pass was thwarted by Zat Knight. Roberts was the stand out player on the day and had a hand in M Diouf’s late equaliser.

West Ham slumped to a 3-1 loss to Manchester City in match week 17. The Hammers have a long hard winter ahead as they stay at the foot of the table as the Premiership nears the half-way stage. They were outplayed by Man City as Spector and Parker failed to keep up with Mancini’s charges who controlled the midfield.

Head to head, the Hammers lead the Blues 5-1 in their last eight league games. The most recent, hosted at Upton Park by the Hammers, ended in a goalless stalemate.

Blackburn have lost just two of eight home games while winning four and drawing two. West Ham are yet to win on the road, drawing three and losing five of eight played away from home.

Even as the Hammers bid to get out of the relegation mine, they have their task cut out against a team with a good home record.

Blackburn’s starting eleven against Bolton had Robinson, Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Olsson, Emerton, Jones, Pedersen, M Diouf and Roberts. Dunn, Diouf and Hoilett featured as substitutes.

West Ham had the following men in their starting eleven against Man City: Green, Faubert, Tomkins, Upson, Ben-Haim, Barrera, Spector, Parker, Stanislas, Piquionne and Obinna. Hines, Cole and Dyer were used as substitutes.

  • Premier League Match Time: Blackpool Vs Manchester City

Manchester City will look to bank three full points this Sunday when they travel to Bloomfield Road, as Blackpool host their third match ever, in the Premier League.

When the season started, nobody gave Blackpool, debutants to the league, a ghost of a chance. But Ian Holloway’s squad announced themselves with a 4-0 thrashing of Wigan Athletic, and with ten points in the kitty after seven matches and a win against Liverpool to boot, the Seasiders have ensured that they are not taken lightly by any team.

Interestingly, Blackpool are yet to win in two home matches so far but on the road have recorded three wins in five games. Also, their losses have come against biggies Chelsea and Arsenal. But the Tangerines’ home record is unlikely to improve this Sunday against cash-rich City’s title aspirants.

Robert Mancini’s side are now in second place on the points table, four points adrift of leaders Chelsea, whom they beat 2-0, in a home match in the Eastlands, to sully the champions’ all-win record in the ongoing Premiership.

With wins against Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool, City are on a roll, the only blip being a loss to Sunderland on the back of a late penalty.

As against Liverpool, the Tangerines will look to Luke Varney to breach City’s back-line; Campbell is another player who has more than repaid Holloway’s confidence in him. There will be no pressure of expectation on Blackpool who would do well to treat the game as useful experience against a star-spangled City who have spent £125 mn in summer signings against Blackpool’s £3 mn.

It has been refreshing to see Blackpool’s attacking tactics in game after game, and we can expect no different against the Citizens, though it is not certain as to how much success they would be able to achieve against a side that have conceded just three goals in seven matches.

Also, the Tangerines’ defence is likely to be tested – and that’s putting it mildly —  by City’s Argentine striker Carlos Tevez; Tevez is among bookmakers’s favourites to win the Golden Boot this season.

The following Blackpool players are sidelined owing to injury: Martin, Rachubka, Almond, Clarke and Baptiste. Man City have their own injuries woes with the following players out of action: Zabaleta, Kolarov, Boateng, Bridge, Balotelli, M Johnson, Richards and Wright-Phillips.

In their last Premiership game, against Liverpool that they won 2-1, Blackpool started with the following eleven players: Gilks, Eardley, Evatt, Cathcart, Crainey, Vaughan, Adam, Campbell, Grandin, Varney, Taylor-Fletcher.

The substitutes were: Halstead, Sylvestre, Keinan, Southern, Harewood, Phillips, Ormerod.

Manchester City’s starting eleven in their game against Newcastle comprised: Hart, Boateng, Toure, Kompany, Lescott, De Jong, Barry, Silva, Yaya Toure, Milner, Tevez.

The substitutes were: Boyata, Jo, Vieira, Given, Johnson, Adebayor, Santa cruz.

  • Premier League Match Time: Everton Vs Arsenal

It’s Premier League match time on Sunday when Arsenal travel to Goodison Park for an early kick off against Everton.

Jermaine Beckford’s late equaliser saved Everton the blushes against Bolton in match week twelve. While the Toffees are playing an organized game with neat passing, they have lacked the finishing touch this season, failing to score after doing all the hard work to set up a goal.

The Gunners’ most recent visit to Goodison Park last season ended in a 6-1 annihilation of the hosts. This year is likely to be a lot different with Everton running into form, not having lost in their last seven games.

That said, Arsene Wenger’s charges did not do their title aspirations any harm when they came from behind to register a 2-1 win over Wolves, in midweek. Arsenal have had a weakness between the posts, recently. But not on Wednesday, though, with Fabiansky having arguably his best day in the office this season. Their forwards are finding their rhythm and Rosicky’s equaliser against Wolves gives the squad an additional striking option.

Ahead of the game, Everton have some injury concerns. Anichebe, Barkley and Osman continue to be sidelined while Fellaini is due to miss the match as he is serving a three-match suspension owing to a red card received in the Bolton game.

Heitinga who missed the match against the Trotters on Wednesday owing to a knee injury is back to match fitness and is likely to feature against Arsenal. Rodwell, whose ankle injury kept him on the bench as a substitute, for three matches, has also recovered fully, and is likely to find a place in the starting eleven for the Toffees.

For Arsenal, Kieran Gibbs is set to return, while Almunia’s elbow, Diaby’s ankle and Vermaelen’s Achilles problems will keep said players out of Sunday’s game.  Aaron Ramsey has not recovered fully from a broken leg and is set to sit out the match.

Koscielny serving a red card suspension will also be missing. Wenger could opt for Nasri and Walcoitt in his starting eleven, with both men having missed out in the game against Wolves.

Everton had the following players in their starting eleven against  on: Howard, Neville, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Bilyaletdinov, Fellaini, Cahill, Arteta, Pienaar and Saha;  Coleman, Beckford and Yakubu came in as substitutes.

Arsenal’s starting eleven in the game against Wolves comprised Fabiansky, Sagna, Koscielny, Squillaci, Wilshere, Fabregas, Clichy, Song, Nasri, Walcott and Chamakh;  Denilson, Nasri and Bendtner were used as substitutes.

  • Premier League: Drogba, Malouda, Berbatov Head Golden Boot Roster

Didier Drogba’s goal for Chelsea against Arsenal on Sunday was his sixth of the ongoing Premier League season, and the strike helped the Ivorian draw level with teammate Florent Malouda and United’s Dimitar Berbatov as joint top-scorer in the competition.

Drogba got the first hat-trick of the Premiership season on its opening day playing at home against West Brom. Chelsea won that match 6-0. Thereafter, the Ivorian has had three goals in six matches, in all of which he started for the Stamford Bridge squad.

Interestingly, all of Drogba’s goals have come in home matches, one each against Stoke City, Blackpool and Arsenal, games that Ancelotti’s squad won 2-0, 4-0 and 2-0, respectively.

Like Drogba, Malouda opened his scoring account in Chelsea’s season opener against Albion, in which he found the back of the rival net twice.

But unlike Drogba, Malouda has not restricted his scoring to home matches. His third goal came in Chelsea’s 6-0 away win against Wigan, his fourth came in the home match against Stoke City, his fifth and sixth in the home game with Blackpool on September 19.

Also, unlike Drogba, Malouda has not been in the starting eleven in every match. In fact, in the West Ham match on September 11, the Frenchman came on as a late second half substitute in the 84th minute.

Berbatov has been Manchester United’s saviour this season, with Wayne Rooney’s truancy giving the Bulgarian an opportunity to prove that the Old Trafford squad are not a one-man outfit, centred around Rooney.

Berbatov began his scoring, with a strike in United’s opener at Old Trafford against Newcastle on August 15. He did not add to his tally, in the next game with Fulham, played away at Craven Cottage. The Bulgarian striker’s second goal of the season came in his team’s 3-0 win at home against West Ham, on August 28.

Berbatov’s next goal came in the away game against Everton, that ended in a 3-3 draw, followed by a hat-trick against Liverpool. His third goal came in injury time, ensuring that United banked full points from that match.

Berbatov’s exclusion from the starting eleven in the away match against Sunderland has raised more than a few eyebrows. But following Sir Alex’s refusal to talk to the media after the Liverpool match where the media went to town over the United manager’s comment on Torres, nobody is able to discuss the rationale of Fergie’s team selection, with the big man.

Sunderland’s Darren Bent and Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez have both scored five goals each this season, and are hot on the heels of the top three, in contention for the Golden Boot.

  • Premier League Preview: Arsenal Vs Stoke

Premier League match time arrives at the Emirates as Arsenal get set to host Stoke on Wednesday, February 23, in a first leg game that was originally scheduled in December, and got postponed owing to snow.

Arsenal are coming off a 2-0 home win against Wolves, in match week 27. Van Persie scoed a brace for the Gunners who went ahead 1-0 on 16 minutes, when the Dutchman volleyed one into the Wolves net. In match week 26, Wenger’s men had squandered a 4-0 lead away at Sunderland, but this time around, they ensured that there was no repetition. Wolves never looked threatening and after Van Persie got his second goal 11 minutes after the break, the score stood at 2-0, the final result. It was a tale of missed opportunities for the Emirates squad;. Van Persie himself missed a second soon after his first strike. Arshavin also had only the goalkeeper to beat, off a Van Persie corner, in another missed scoring opportunity. Fabregas was a third player to rue a missed chance on a day, when a 6-0 score might not have been unwarranted.

In match week 27, Stoke lost 1-0 away at Birmingham. The game appeared heading for a listless stalemate, when 3 minutes into injury time Zigic latched on to a cross from Jerome and headed the ball home for Birmingham. Birmingham had the better proportion of possession and would have felt relieved to bank full points against an obdurate Stoke. In a brief spell of domination, Stoke got a sniff at the Birmingham goal when John Carew got a shot in, only to see it blocked. Pennant had a free-kick, after being brought down by a rough tackle by Larsson; the shot beat everyone but missed the post by a couple of feet. Stoke were fortunate not have a penalty awarded against them when a Bentley drive was blocked by Huth using his hand for the purpose. In the end., the result was a fair reflection of the strengths of the respective teams in the game.

Head to head, Arsenal have established a 3-1 lead over Stoke in 4 league games between the sides.

Of their last 10 league games, Arsenal have won 6, drawn 3 and lost 1; Stoke have won 4 and lost the remaining 6 of their last 10. In 13 home games, this season, Arsena have registered 9 wins, one draw and 3 losses, while Stoke have won 3 of 13 away agames, drawing one and losing the remaining 9.

On current form, Stoke will need a large slice of luck to be able to prevent Arsenal from banking full points from the game.

Arsenal had the following men in their startng eleven against Wolves: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Koscielny, Clichy, Song, Fabregas, Wilshere, Walcott, van Persie and Arshavin. Denilson, Bendtner and Chamakh featured as substitutes.

Stoke’s starting eleven against Birmingham comprised:Begovic, Delap, Huth, Shawcross, Pugh, Pennant, Whitehead, Wilson, Walters, Jones and Carew. Whelan and Fuller were used as substitutes.
