  • Champions League – Manchester United Have Advantage Over Chelsea

Manchester United took a huge advantage in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Wayne Rooney’s goal was enough to give the Reds a 1-0 win and a crucial away win, which puts United in a strong position to qualify for the semi final stage against Inter Milan or more than likely German side Schalke 04 who lead Milan 5-2 following their first quarter final game.

Rooney scored in the 24th minute following a sublime move involving Michael Carrick and Reds veteran Ryan Giggs, which will leave the Blues with the daunting task of securing a victory at Old Trafford in order to pursue their dream of the elusive Champions League Trophy.

Chelsea chose a strike partnership of Didier Drogba and £50million pound striker Fernando Torres, who is yet to score a goal in a Chelsea shirt. Drogba hit the United post moments before half time and a scuffed shot from Frank Lampard was cleared off the line as the Blues searched in vein for an equalising goal.

Chelsea were frustrated again late in the second half when they had two penalty claims turned down, firstly Ramires was sent clattering to the ground with a crude challenge from Patrice Evra, which would have seen him clear on goal and then moments later Torres claimed to have been fouled, but only received a yellow card for his efforts as the referee adjudged him to have dived.

United were given a huge boost before the game with the return of Rio Ferdinand, who made his first appearance for two months, the Reds were resilient from the outset, strong and well organised in defence while continually looking to catch Chelsea on the counter attack. Edwin van der Sar made fine saves from a Drogba shot in the first half and from a Torres header in the final minutes, showing an agility and alertness that belied his age, in what is proclaimed to be his final season at United.

Chelsea made the brighter start to the game, although it was United who scored the all important goal, a pin point, long range pass from found Ryan Giggs who skipped past Bosingwa and neatly pulled the ball for an unmarked Rooney to fire a low shot past Cech in the Chelsea goal and in off the post, the celebrations were somewhat muted compared with his foul mouthed accolade at West Ham, which now sees Rooney face a two match domestic ban.

The Blues huffed and puffed during the second half, but rarely threatened to score and at times they looked lacklustre in attack, the penalty decision for the foul on Ramires could be prove to be crucial in this tie, as replays appeared to show he was clearly fouled, but even the extra assistant behind the goal, employed for Champions League games, who probably had the best view of anyone in the ground, stood motionless, as he could obviously see no wrong in the challenge.

Victory at Old Trafford will be a huge task for Chelsea, but victory is not a formality for Manchester United either, the Blues probably have one of the best records of any team at Old Trafford in recent years, including a crucial 2-1 victory last season which ultimately saw Chelsea go onto win the Premier League.

    Real Madrid is the team who won the most UEFA Championship League, they left this trophy 9 times (1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1966, 1998, 2000, 2002), followed by AC Milan who won 7 times (1963, 1969, 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003, 2007) and Liverpool who won 5 times (1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 2005).

    Bayern Munich and Ajax both won 4 times, Bayern Munich in (1974, 1975, 1976, 2001) and Ajax in (1971, 1972, 1973, 1995).

Barcelona, Inter Milan and Manchester United won 3 times each. Barcelona in (1992, 2006, 2009), Inter Milan in (1964, 1965, 2010) and Manchester United in (1968, 1999, 2008).

Celtic, Hamburg, Steaua BucureYti, Marseille, Feyenoord, Aston Villa, PSV Eindhoven, Red Star Belgrade and Borussia Dortmund won 1 time each.

Meaning 4 British teams: Liverpool, Machester United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Vila have won this competition. Followed by 3 Italian teams: Ac Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus and 3 German teams: Bayern Munich, Hamburg and Borussia Dortmund.

The reason why I am writing this is because this is crucial data that can help to predict which team from which country got better odds to win the next UEFA Championship League.

Heavy better usually really on this sort of data (plus experience). It is estimated that over 100 million bets are placed every year over UEFA Championship League.

I cannot say which team will win the next Champions League, however based from this crucial data I can say that a team from Britain as better chances to win the next Champions League as a team from Romania; since the only Romanian team (Steaua BucureYti) won only 1 Champions league so far. Where 4 strong British teams such as: Liverpool, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Vila won 11 times in total.

  • Learning Soccer Moves and Tricks – Part 2

Here is the continuation of the first part of the article about the common tricks and moves in soccer. Check out the details below to fine-tune your talents in this wonderful game.

    The Elastico

Ronaldhino is the undisputed inventor of this trick although it has many versions today. Viewed by many as easy, the elastico is far from simple. This trick is never easy to perform, and requires a lot of time to practice. A player doing this should have enough confidence to pull this off in front of a good defender. This move is merely shifting the ball in one quick motion. This is done by hitting the ball sideways with the outside of the foot, then shifting the ball again in the opposite direction with the inside of the foot. This ball movement should be executed in a moment to be effective. This way, if the defender even just blinks he would be left in the dust for sure.

    The Stepover

Every soccer player knows what a stepover is as this is the most fundamental moves in the game. Common as it may seem, the stepover is a very effective move to perform in any game. Its simplicity makes it quite lethal. One of the best stepover kings today is Cristiano Ronaldo, also considered the most expensive player at present. The main concept of this trick is to deceive the defender where to direct the ball by stepping a leg over the ball either to the outside or to the inside of the foot without touching the ball. There are countless variations for this simple move.

    The Stepover Pull

Another effective move to effect a goal, the stepover pull was the favorite of Ronaldo in 2002 FIFA World Cup when he played for his home country, Brazil. This trick can be used by both right-footed and left-footed players. For right-footed players to be effective, they need to step over the ball with their right led to deceive the defender that he will shoot off to the left. Actually, the fake move is just a decoy because offense will hit the ball to the right with his left leg from behind the right leg. If this trick sounds complicated, it is only because you may have not seen it. Just like many other moves and tricks, the stepover pull is elementary and simply require the offense the ability to effectively fake the defender. Any good defender must watch for shoulder movements. A particular drop of the shoulders in a certain direction be used to devastating effect by fooling the defender.

    The Overhead Scissor Kick

If there is a more flamboyant trick or move in soccer, the overhead scissor kick can very well be it. This tough trick requires lots of time for practice, and demands great agility, focus on the ball, and a strong standing jump from the defender. It can catch the defender off guard especially that the offense has his back to the goal. Basically, this style is executed when the ball is coming towards the air and the offense kicking it overhead towards the goalpost. However, this highly rewarding acrobatic move can be quite painful to the back if not properly done.

These things mentioned above are just some of the most common tricks of all time. As you probably know, there are many variations of these basic moves that you normally saw in professional football leagues around the world such Europe’s Premier League or the Australian Hyundai A-League. If you want to learn these tricks and moves, make sure that you prepare yourself physically and mentally first. The tricks may look simple at first but they require concentration and discipline just like any other sport.

  • Jose Mourinho Wants Return To English Premier League

Whenever Jose Mourinho speaks – the football world listens. He simply is one of its best tacticians and motivators and will be regarded as one of its best coaches when his career is over. What he has achieved already puts him in the pantheon of all-time greats. Two European Cups (Champions League) with Porto and Inter. League titles with Porto, Chelsea and Inter. He is unique because he not only wins silverware in one league – he crosses over to different leagues and keeps winning. How many great managers have done that?

    RETURN OF THE SPECIAL ONE

Mourinho was speaking at a gala event in London about his plans for next season and it sounds very much like he is planning a return to the English Premier League – obviously with one of the Big Six clubs. Mourinho was quoted saying that he has «unfinished business» in the EPL – alluding to the unceremonious way he was booted out of Chelsea by owner Roman Abramovich. He spoke about his passion for the English game, its fans and its atmospheric charm.

    WHERE HE WILL LAND

When Jose Mourinho declares him on the market – he commands the attention of every elite club in Europe. In this case – only the EPL Big Six need apply. Its interesting to see in summer where he will land. There are really only three teams in the Big Six that Mourinho will realistically surface in. Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal are not in the hunt for a new manager. They have their own iconic bosses in places. Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham are the only clubs in this conversation. Man City would love to have someone with Mourinho’s prestige, presence and tactical cache managing their team of stars. Roberto Mancini has had a difficult season but has performed admirably well considering the pressure he’s under. I put them as the favorites to land Mourinho. Chelsea may want Mourinho back but its like a break up we’ve all had. Do we really want to revisit all that emotional baggage and can bygones be bygones? Its tough. But its a business and its Abramovich’s call to make. He has Mourinho’s number. Tottenham are the outsiders here. They are happy with what Harry Redknapp’s work so far. But if England let Fabio Capello go – it will set about a chain of events that could eventually suck Redknapp out of Tottenham. He is the overwhelming favorite to land the England manager job. If that happens, then Tottenham will step up their chase for Mourinho.

    THE LAST WORD

I think Mourinho will choose carefully the club where he will enjoy relatively unfettered authority over his roster as well as transfer decisions. He has been unhappy at Real Madrid because they have a decision making structure that does not feature Mourinho as commander-in-chief as far as transfer decisions go. He also will command a hefty price. Those two factors put Man City in pole-position because they have both the financial resources as well as the need for a football czar and manager. Mourinho would relish both positions and he will do amazing work if given those twin roles. I don’t think Tottenham can afford Mourinho but they have to ask themselves if they can afford NOT to have someone as gifted as Mourinho. Managers like him do not become available every year. They have to chase him despite Redknapp’s stellar work. He is a definite upgrade. As for Chelsea – its the classic kiss-and-make-up scenario.

  • Who Will Win the Premier League?

The question that is on everybody’s lips at the moment is who will win the coveted title of English Champions. Manchester United have won it for the past three seasons and are hoping for a record breaking fourth consecutive title. The main threat to Manchester United will come in the usual shape of the ‘Big Four’, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, plus possibly this year’s big spenders and United’s rivals, Manchester City. Manchester City have spent nearly £100m this year securing the services of some big name players such as Gareth Barry from Aston Villa, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal and Carlos Tevez who turned down the opportunity to stay at Old Trafford.

Many pundits are tipping the blues, Chelsea to win the title this time around. Reason being unlike the other members of the ‘Big Four’ they not lost any players where as Arsenal have lost Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor, Liverpool have lost Xabi Alonso and Manchester United have lost Carlos Tevez and world player of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo. Although they have all gone some length to replacing them they were all key figures for their teams. Chelsea have also strengthened their squad slightly, signing Russian Zuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow for 18m and two young English players in Ross Turnbull on a free transfer and Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City.

Liverpool came so close last year and were arguably the better team over the year but were let down by so many home draws against the ‘lesser sides’. It was by far the closest that Liverpool had come to winning the league since 1990 and maybe they will be able to better it this year. They have lost a key midfield player in Xabi Alonso who went to money bags Madrid and signed Alberto Aquilani from AS Roma for 20m, unfortunately he will no be featuring for the first two months of the season because of an ankle injury. They will be hoping that they could better what they achieved last year but they could be ruing the missed opportunities, however with the talasmanic Steven Gerrard and constant goal threat Fernando Torres they have a good shot at it.

Arsenal have not won a major trophy in the last four years and have finished 4th in the Premier League for three out of the last four seasons. However they had a good run in the Champions League last year eventually bowing out to the beaten finalists Manchester United at the semi-final stage. Arsenal have a young squad captained by Cesc Fabregas who is only 22 himself. They have been dogged by injuries in the past few seasons to key players such as Rosiscky, Walcott and Eduardo and Samir Nasri had broken his leg now too, they will be hoping for better luck in the injury department that’s for sure . Under manager Arsense Wenger they are certain to be playing fantastic looking football but whether they will be able to go the distance with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United will have to be seen.

The reason why many people don’t think Manchester United are going to win the Premier League this year is because of the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo for a record 80m to Real Madrid, Ronaldo was a pivotal figure in Manchester United’s recent success and was almost unstoppable in the 2007/2008 campaign banging in a massive 42 goals over the year.

Although Sir Alex received a world record transfer sum for Ronaldo only 19m has been reinvested. Sir Alex has signed Ecudorian Luis Antonio Valencia from Wigan for approximately 16m, Valencia is a much more conventional winger who passes defenders, gets to the byline and wips in a cross. The shock of the summer was possibly Manchester United signing Michael Owen on a free transfer after a horrid time at Newcastle where he was hampered by injuries but still managed 39 goals in 80 games in four seasons. There is a slight risk to it but if anyone can get Owen firing like he did in his Liverpool days then Sir Alex can and Manchester United would have done a shrude bit of business. Will they be able to retain the Premier League title for the 4th year running?

As for me, I believe that although Liverpool had a fantastic season last year United never really looked that good and they missed a real opportunity to win the title. I am going to go with Manchester United to win the Premier League for 4th year in a row with Chelsea a close second and Liverpool third. I do feel Arsenal will manage to hold on to 4th place but only just with Manchester City right on their tail.

I’m sure that we will see an extremely close title race and as ever a very entertaining season of football.

  • Arsenal Beat Rivals Chelsea To Improve Title Chances

Arsenal beat Chelsea for the first time in over two years to climb up to second place in the Premier League, while Chelsea’s poor run of form continues.

Chelsea had won the five previous encounters between to the two teams, while Arsenal were developing a reputation for capitulating every time they played another top team. Arsenal’s poor form against their title rivals has cost them dearly in recent seasons, and having recently lost against Manchester United, the Gunners looked to put yet another insipid performance behind them, as they strive to mount a serious title challenge this season.

Chelsea have now taken just 6 points, from a possible 24, in their last eight league games, which is their worst performance in the league since 1998. Manager Carlo Ancelotti may come under renewed pressure following another defeat. Chelsea’s chance of retaining their Premier League trophy now looks to be very slim.

Arsenal started the game brightly and continued to press the Chelsea defence, Chelsea’s only effort during the early stages of the game came from nemesis Didier Drogba, who had scored 13 goals in the previous 13 games against the Gunners, but his shot from some distance was wide of the goal.

As the Blues looked a shadow of free scoring the team who started the season, the Gunners increased the pressure, and it was no surprise when Alex Song scored after 43 minutes to give the home side a deserved lead.

Chelsea made a half time substitution, with Ramires replacing John Obi Mikel, but not for the first time this season, he failed to bring any inspiration to the Chelsea team. Fabregas put Arsenal 2-0 in front after 51 minutes and 90 seconds later Theo Walcott compounded Chelsea’s misery by adding a third goal.

With the game now effectively over as a contest, Chelsea made a an attempt to salvage the game, and Ivanovic headed a goal for Chelsea. With Arsenal’s recent poor record of maintaining a lead, the Blues looked for a second goal, but this time the Gunners weathered the storm and actually finished the game stronger.

Chelsea provided little in the way of inspiration and must surely now have relinquished their title, while Arsenal moved within two points of Manchester United, although they have played a game more.
