Premier League Predictions and Stats – The Best Sites

Why Would You Need Premier League Statistics?

There are lots of reasons you might need football stats. Mostly people seek out football (soccer) stats and predictions because they want some insight in to what might happen in a big forthcoming match either to be in the know or sometimes to make educated predictions and bets with friends.

People seek out football stats sites so they can indulge in the history of certain rivalries between two teams, to pick up on the form of one team or another or simply to learn more about the depth of what goes on in their favourite game.

The Problem With Premier League Stats Websites

The main issue with looking for these stats on the web is that many of the sites that display them have focused so much on integrating good, valuable data that very little effort has gone in to design. So the sites can look dated and unattractive, but don’t be put off, these sites often contain some solid gold.

The other issue is that because many of these sites have to license their data fro world’s major football data providers (some times at great expense) a lot of what you find is repeated across lots of sites which can make the search for specific data infuriating.

The Best of The Best

Through countless hours spent doing research I have been through most of the sites that are out there and available for free. So below is a list of those that are top of the pile, unless you’re planning on becoming a manager, you won’t need any others:

1. Football365 Stats If you’re after the kind of information which is going to satisfy 90% of regular users then you won’t need to look beyond here. The layout can take a while to get used to, but once you’re in the flow you can find current and historical data in the Premier League (going back to 1998) and the major leagues and competitions in Europe. You can find this site by looking for football365 on Google and then clicking the «Stats» link in the top menu.

The only down side to this site is that that data doesn’t go back beyond 1998 in most cases and you’ll need to be determined in order to get comfortable with the way the data is laid out.

Top tip: Once you’ve selected a season, competition or league table, scroll down to the bottom of the page and check out the stats index, here you can find dozens of different tables to show recent form, scoring, defending and resolve stats. It’s also a great place to look if you want results by individual team rather than league.

2. BBC Football – There aren’t a massive amount of stats on this site, in fact it’s all kept pretty top line and basic, but when it comes to getting fixtures, results, goal scorers and top scorers info by league then it’s the most straight forward and reliable place to get them. To find the site simply Google BBC Football and click the Premier League on the left.

3. Soccer Base – This site has all the usual stats, odds, and upcoming matches, but it has something most of the others don’t. On the home page there is a list of up coming games, a form indicator, and Expert Verdict which is amongst the most credible around, especially if you’re thinking about a bet.

Finding the best bits takes a bit of exploring, the problem is there is just so much data out there that could be useful to you depending on what your objective is that sometimes this can cause any stats website try and present too much in too little space, but once again your determination will get you some gold on this site.

Top Tip: Where this site really comes in to it’s own is the head to head stats. There is no where else on the web that you should look if you want to see how two teams have played against one another down the years. The time line goes back 20 or 30 years, and most of the stats include goal scorers, yellow cards and even the players that were playing in each match. A proper trip down memory lane.

4. Soccer Stats – Gives you a great overview of about 20 top leagues in Europe and you can quickly find out the average number of goals being scored in each league as well as easily comparing some other top line football stats and great summaries at the bottom of each page. You can find the site by typing «soccerstats» in to Google.

As usual you will need to be in an exploratory mode to get the best out of this site, some of the data is tucked away in hard to reach places, but the layout is pretty straight forward and your time will be well rewarded for being inquisitive.

Top Tip: The main strength of this web site is the easy to follow information which can be found on the Trends and Timing tabs within each of the individual league pages. These will show the most frequent score lines and when in a match teams are scoring most of their goals.

5. Statto – You might not be blown away on first viewing, once again the site is more about data than design, but you should never judge a book by it’s cover. Not only does the league table information on this site go back to 1888 but a quick look and a few clicks down the left hand menu will show you a whole raft of interesting stats, some of which you won’t find else where.

Top Tip: The feature I use most often on this site is hidden away, but well worth a look. If you click «Tables» in the left hand menu it’ll show you the current league table with three drop downs above it. From these drop downs you can select to see the table not only for any league and any season, but uniquely for any week during a given season. So if you want to know what the table looked like at the same stage last season, or in the same week in 1984, it’s very easy to do.
