Premier League Match Time: Blackpool Vs Manchester City

Manchester City will look to bank three full points this Sunday when they travel to Bloomfield Road, as Blackpool host their third match ever, in the Premier League.

When the season started, nobody gave Blackpool, debutants to the league, a ghost of a chance. But Ian Holloway’s squad announced themselves with a 4-0 thrashing of Wigan Athletic, and with ten points in the kitty after seven matches and a win against Liverpool to boot, the Seasiders have ensured that they are not taken lightly by any team.

Interestingly, Blackpool are yet to win in two home matches so far but on the road have recorded three wins in five games. Also, their losses have come against biggies Chelsea and Arsenal. But the Tangerines’ home record is unlikely to improve this Sunday against cash-rich City’s title aspirants.

Robert Mancini’s side are now in second place on the points table, four points adrift of leaders Chelsea, whom they beat 2-0, in a home match in the Eastlands, to sully the champions’ all-win record in the ongoing Premiership.

With wins against Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool, City are on a roll, the only blip being a loss to Sunderland on the back of a late penalty.

As against Liverpool, the Tangerines will look to Luke Varney to breach City’s back-line; Campbell is another player who has more than repaid Holloway’s confidence in him. There will be no pressure of expectation on Blackpool who would do well to treat the game as useful experience against a star-spangled City who have spent £125 mn in summer signings against Blackpool’s £3 mn.

It has been refreshing to see Blackpool’s attacking tactics in game after game, and we can expect no different against the Citizens, though it is not certain as to how much success they would be able to achieve against a side that have conceded just three goals in seven matches.

Also, the Tangerines’ defence is likely to be tested – and that’s putting it mildly —  by City’s Argentine striker Carlos Tevez; Tevez is among bookmakers’s favourites to win the Golden Boot this season.

The following Blackpool players are sidelined owing to injury: Martin, Rachubka, Almond, Clarke and Baptiste. Man City have their own injuries woes with the following players out of action: Zabaleta, Kolarov, Boateng, Bridge, Balotelli, M Johnson, Richards and Wright-Phillips.

In their last Premiership game, against Liverpool that they won 2-1, Blackpool started with the following eleven players: Gilks, Eardley, Evatt, Cathcart, Crainey, Vaughan, Adam, Campbell, Grandin, Varney, Taylor-Fletcher.

The substitutes were: Halstead, Sylvestre, Keinan, Southern, Harewood, Phillips, Ormerod.

Manchester City’s starting eleven in their game against Newcastle comprised: Hart, Boateng, Toure, Kompany, Lescott, De Jong, Barry, Silva, Yaya Toure, Milner, Tevez.

The substitutes were: Boyata, Jo, Vieira, Given, Johnson, Adebayor, Santa cruz.
