Everton and Nottingham Forest CHARGED by Premier League and face six point deduction

EVERTON and Nottingham Forest face minimum six-point deductions this season after being accused of breaching Premier League financial rules.

After weeks of speculation, League chiefs confirmed the two clubs had been hit with charges for breaking the Profitability and Sustainability Rules last term.

And it leaves both sides lined up to be hit with significant points deductions that will reset the relegation scrap and tip the pair of them into the heart of the scramble for survival.

It means Everton, already appealing against the ten-point deduction imposed for breaches in 2021-22, face ANOTHER penalty.

A further six points, in addition to the initial penalty, would plunge the Toffees to 19th in the Prem table, just two points ahead of bottom-placed Sheffield United and five points away from a survival spot.

Forest would also drop down from 20 points and 15th into the third and final relegation place, two points adrift of Luton in 17th.

All 20 top-flight clubs had until December 31 to hand over their final accounts for the 2022-23 season.

New League regulations, introduced last summer, meant that today was the deadline for charges to be brought.

Prem rules allow clubs who spend three consecutive seasons in the top flight to make “permitted losses” – after income and expenditure are calculated – of £105m over that period.

Forest, who were in the Championship for the first two seasons being assessed, were restricted to losses of £61m.

The likelihood of a six-point deduction comes from the independent commission hearing that assessed Everton’s earlier case.

The written reasons of the three-man body showed that Prem chief executive Richard Masters, on behalf of the League, argued that the standard starting penalty for a “PSR” breach should be six points, with a further point deducted for each £5m in excess of the allowed limits.

While the commission opted to ignore that request and impose a penalty based on the evidence to hand, their final sentence almost exactly matched the Prem recommendation.

The new fast-track procedure allows both clubs 14 days to respond to the charges.

A hearing must be completed by April 8, allowing any punishment to be imposed before the end of the season.

Clubs can then appeal, with the verdict of a subsequent panel potentially coming after the season has finished but BEFORE next term’s top-flight 20 members are confirmed by their presence at the annual summer meeting in June, when each promoted club takes over the “share” of a relegated side.

There is no doubt anymore that football is blatantly corrupt. How is that Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona always get away with cooking the books.

It is so backwards that because a club goes into finanical difficulties, you punish then further and take points off them. How's that going to help, that's like punishing a keeper for losing a game by chopping off one of their fingers on the case of Everton an entire hand.

Meanwhile Man City sail on buying their success with impunity, simply because they are too big for the Premier league to hold them to account. They whole Premier league project is about money, that uses the game of football as a cover. If you want honest football, go watch Sunday pub sides play.

The Premier league are corrupt. They target an Iranian /Russian backed club.but take massive sponsorship money from other middle eastern countries and American hedge funds that have spent fortunes.so they can get their friends to buy the clubs on the cheap.once relegated. The game and the rules stink. The British Government is pulling the strings

  27. Avatar de @steeevm5180

What are the Premier League trying to do to our wonderful game ????? BECAUSE OF MONEY ?? IN WHICH CASE THEY MUST BE THE MOST MEGA RICH ON THE BACKS OF THE AMAZING FOOTBALL THAT OUR TEAMS PROVIDE ….(.THAT ULTIMATELY FEEDS THE INSATIABLE PREMIER LEAGUE )
WHAT IF THE TEAMS DECIDED TO LEAVE AND FORM ANOTHER LEAGUE ? A LEAGUE THAT APPRECIATED AND HELPED ITS MEMBERS
THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS GONNA REGRET ALL THIS …..WITHOUT THE TEAMS …ITS NOTHING

"The establishment of the PL in 1992 was primarily driven by LFC , Man u & Arsenal. Renowned Liverpool fan, Rick Parry, fulfilled a principal role as a management consultant. Together they planned the PL as a breakaway from the English Leagues. Parry was then appointed first CEO of the PL.

The commercial gains from the PL mainly revolved around these 3 clubs with Spurs & Everton added.

The breakaway European Super League was led by the same 3 clubs. They were motivated by similar commercial aims as in 1992, and the realisation that they were not able to regularly qualify for the Champions League which provided huge income. In due course, the former CEO`s / Financial Directors of LFC and MUFC, Parry and Gill, obtained key positions at UEFA. Influence could be wielded.

New `rules` were crafted. Ultimately their purpose was to retain the `Golden Goose` in the hands of the G-14 organisation for the benefit of those clubs. The `rules` were not primarily for a wider altruistic, common good despite how they were presented, Self protectionism was the end game. Platini was briefed. The disingenuously labelled `financial fair play` (ffp) rules were re-drafted. High levels of club debt were allowed.

Later, when ffp began to be `tested`, the New York Times published stories based allegedly on confidential information to be the subject of UEFA proceedings. Through their sources, they produced misleading opinion pieces before ffp hearings were even held.

NUFC want to invest for growth and success, like most clubs and businesses. They are now aware of the deeper machinations. The PL`s Chair is a self confessed Man u fan. Gill is still at UEFA. Parry is before a Govt hearing next week.

Who are the masters of Masters? Who has been pulling the strings?"

Wow! What will they do to Manchester City 😮

  30. Avatar de @manwingchi9156

FA should set a maximum 50 million for each club for each year. This is fair play. This avoid club like Man City who can just sale 200 million for advertising and stadium right. 😂😂😂😂
