HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Brighton (1-2) | Premier League | Odegaard

We fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday at Emirates Stadium, with goals from Leandro Trossard and Enock Mwepu handing The Seagulls all three points despite a wonder-goal from Martin Odegaard late on.

After defeat last time out to Crystal Place and injuries to key players, it was crucial we got off to a good start against Brighton in north London, but it wasn’t to be.

Chances were few and far between for the Gunners in the opening exchanges, with Bukayo Saka’s back-post cross to Gabriel Magalhaes representing our best move in the first 25 minutes.

Three minutes later, though, we were behind. Brighton played a long clearance upfield into the right-hand channel towards Mwepu who picked out Trossard inside the box. The 27-year-old forward only needed a touch to bend the ball past Aaron Ramsdale and into the top corner to give Graham Potter’s side the advantage.

We upped the tempo after falling behind as we looked to get back on level terms. Granit Xhaka slid in Emile Smith Rowe as our No. 10 went in search of his 11th goal this season, but with the angle tight, his shot couldn’t beat Robert Sanchez at the near-post.

As the half drew to a close, we fashioned our best moment. Bukayo Saka’s late corner picked out Gabriel at the far post whose towering header found Gabriel Martinelli unmarked on the goal line. Our young Brazillian duly headed in to level the scores, but after a lengthy VAR review, it was ruled out for offside.

We looked a different side after the break, with Cedric’s blocked free-kick the result of a renewed spirit following the restart. A period of domination followed, but tenacious work from Brighton at the back kept the busy Smith Rowe and Odegaard at bay.

Mikel Arteta was soon forced to turn to his bench as the clock ticked past the hour mark with Smith Rowe making way for Eddie Nketiah upfront.

We kept on coming as Saka’s driven effort blazed over the bar, before there was to be further anguish for Mikel Arteta’s side. Brighton worked a rare spell of second-half possession into a good chance. Moises Caicedo pulled it back to Mwepu on the edge of the box, who smashed it beyond the outstretched right-hand hand of Ramsdale to double the visitors’ lead in the 67th-minute.

The final few minutes of the game burst into life as Martin Odegaard’s late free-kick was parried into the path of Nketiah who hit the bar from close range. Odegaard then picked the ball up moments later and fired into the top corner from 25-yards to get us back into the contest.

With six added minutes, we pushed and pushed but couldn’t quite find enough to level the game.

The final whistle was greeted with disappointment from the N5 faithful, as we were forced to leave the game empty-handed once again in the Premier League.

We want a CL spot yet we can't beat Crystal palace, we can't beat Brighton! We rather go into Europa other than facing an embarrassment in Cl

Once again. What Arsenal did at the end of the second half could have done throughout the match. I know Tomiyasu and Tierney do but it doesn't justify you playing bad.

Hey young Arsenal players. This life has no choice… you have to win or you will be thrown out by the club… Arsenal need players who can win. So practice discipline, find your rhythm.. REMEMBER WILSHERE, ROBINHO is a great player but his career is inconsistent and his career will fade by itself. Because no club wants to use a player who is mentally a loser and cannot bring victory. Fight. Fight and pray. And I also give Arteta an ultimatum.. if your strategy goes awry… And many players get injured all because of you… That's your responsibility Arteta. See Xavi can heal Dembele. Why you can not??? Change the medical officer if the work is slow.

Set up was bad expecting Sambi to be Partey after playing a handful of games is a joke, moving Xhaka out of the middle meant that all the play was starting too far back that's on Arteta, no movement in the middle meant that there was no one to pass to, that first goal was atrocious, Saka, Odegaard, and Smith Rowe all leisurely strolling back, Laca offered nothing in the game, didn't link up and didn't push back defenders with runs in behind, that's all on the players. When things aren't going our way someone needs to step up and problem solve, it's basic football. Your midfielder is getting pressed as soon as they get the ball? Run in and offer a one-touch outlet, RB/LB drop in and receive the ball. It is basic stuff. Top 4 is cooked, we need to hold on to 5th or 6th.

Arteta is going to cost us the chance of playing the champions league or Europe yet again. I think he is not the perfect coach because he is disrespectful to Pepe and Tevares and Eddie.

Eddie over time has proven he is more deadly, sharper and dangerous than Laca, start the lad. Give Tevares a run dont look down on Pepe his cameos are not worth it. If you give me those kind of chances I will come in and just stand there on the pitch.

Arteta please use your Brain now.

lacazette should never play football again…maybe arteta has been planning europa league football instead champions league since start of season…you guys were misled.

Now we all see Aubameyang was not the problem. FYI, Aubameyang scored again  04/10 against Levante. The problem at Arsenal is that the manager Arteta isn't good. Period. The team has plateaued. Simply put, this naive manager Arteta doesn't have any right to be handling Arsenal. He doesn't have what it takes to reach the next level. We told you so from the beginning,  but it was always,  "GIVE HIM TIME". It's almost THREE YEARS he's been in charge. How many more years does Arsenal have to wait for him to be booted out. Ole was in his 3rd year in Manchester United with better results than Arteta, yet he found his way out. Unai Emery's Arsenal was far far better than this crap we watch now, yet he found his way out. How much longer can fans take this BS going on in the club? Injuries? That is another useless excuse. Which team doesn't have injuries and therefore doesn't plan for them? The chickens have come home to roost. Look around us at the successful clubs and realize they have good tried and tested managers who know what they are doing with their teams and so see progress. Winning against teams like Newcastle, Burnley, Norwich, Watford is a matter of course for a club like Arsenal and needs no pat on the back. Now the true test of character is coming against solid teams with solid managers and the team is just falling apart. The young boys need better guidance. They are going stale and rusty under Arteta.  The team is playing no good football. The lead striker Lacazette is not scoring goals. When you watch teams even below Arsenal on the league table, when the play, they have patterns of play which they execute to perfection. Watch teams like Leeds, Brighton, Crystal Palace, you see they have their peculiar styles, formations and movements with or without the ball. When you watch Arsenal, it is like, "Just keep passing to anyone in your team colors, and hope something results in a goal". Teams are no longer scared of Arsenal as a team and the Emirates.  They may be scared of some individual players like Saka and Martinelli getting passes in their half. But who does Soares scare?? Who does Partey scare?? Or Xhaka, or Pepe, or Tierney, or Smith Rowe, or Lacazette? Get in somebody very good to take charge as manager.. This wannabe Pep has wasted almost 3 years of the club's life. He's taught them nothing to make them a feared team. He cannot read games and thus does not do effective tactical changes. Can you imagine this poor team in Europe next season?? We are again finding our club's level, and by the 38th game we shall comfortably be in our usual 8th place. He's not made individual players better.. Rather, they are stagnated. He's not made the team better. Rather they are playing football without purpose and drive. He's turned the hallowed Emirates into a playground with no excitement. TIME TO LET ARTETA GO!!! NOW!!!
